Mexborough Care Home Completion

25/02/2025

Potters Green Care Home has recently benefited from an 18-bed extension which we are thrilled to announce has just completed. The Exemplar-owned facility stands nestled in the village of Kilnhurst, just outside Mexborough, Rotherham.

Although usually a straightforward extension project for us, this development didn’t come without its complications, presenting a slightly different challenge due to its proximity to a railway line. As you can see from the photos, Potters Green backs directly onto the train line, meaning we had to work closely with Network Rail to ensure our works were not posing any dangers to the live line.

From the beginning of our project, we liaised throughout with Network Rail who provided advice and approval regarding the foundation designs, crane and scaffold locations and specifications, and they ensured all necessary inspections were carried out which included ‘watching briefs.’ As well as consistently working with Network Rail, our contracts manager also attended weekly meetings with the manager of the home to ensure that the works carried out were causing the least amount of disturbance to the residents.

With this new extension, Potters Green is now able to meet demand from the local community for those with complex-needs and require round the clock care. Kim Payne, home manager, said: ‘Having been inundated with placement requests, I am proud that we’ve been able to support so many local people to live with us and lead fulfilling lives.’

A big thank you and congratulations to all involved in getting this project over the line.
