National Apprenticeship Week
6th Feb 2023
Walter Thompson has provided opportunities for school leavers to enter the building trade for over 50 years through a successful and well-respected training programme.
In addition to its traditional apprenticeships in building trades, including groundwork’s, bricklaying and joinery, the training academy is working with local universities to offer degree apprenticeships in quantity surveying, estimating and modern apprenticeships in business administration and accountancy.
Any company is only as good as its people. That’s why we believe in providing our team with high quality training to ensure our continuing success.
Walter Thompson Contractor’s are one of the largest privately owned construction companies in the North East, our success is built on the quality of the people we employ and the services they provide. Every member of our team has a vital job to do. That’s why we are dedicated to helping everyone develop their skills and achieve their career ambitions. From apprenticeships to professional qualifications, we help our people achieve their aspirations so they can help us achieve ours; to be the best at what we do.
Our scheme integrates what we believe to be the key aspects to a successful apprenticeship programme; education, the work environment and personal development. It works well for us and the students. We train our apprentices the way we want, and they get to work for a well-run, well-respected, ambitious company.
Paul Hammerton (Managing Director): “Apprentices are so important to the future of the industry and are the lifeblood of so many companies, As a former apprentice myself I strongly recommend this route into construction and the opportunities it creates from the wealth of knowledge gained during this process.”
“Walter Thompsons is a family run business that has been training people for over 100 years and are one of the few employers who still offer trade apprenticeships for operatives and professional staff every year, we recognise their value and our staff turnover is very low because we look after people and develop them to promote from within as people grow with the business.”
